This game is a huge mixed bag. On one hand, it's one of the best platformers I've ever played, but on the other, the repetitive sound effects can be infuriating to anybody spectating you playing the game. Also, I love the way that the game explains nothing to you except the basic controls and allows you to experiment and figure things out for yourself. However, there were many points in the game that I didn't know if something was an enemy to kill/ avoid, or something good like a platform, such as those trampoline skulls in the food-based levels.
The jumping and running physics of the game feel really natural and precise, and playing with four people feels great, like everyone is working together. This is untrue in the New Super Mario Bros. games, as great as they are, most of the time everyone just gets in the way of each-other by jumping and crashing into one another. In this game the problem is solved by allowing players to pass through each other freely, however you're still able to freely punch and kick friends into firepits and each player collects 'lums', which are tallied up at the end of each level to see who got the most, so the competitive elements are still there.
However new to this game is Murphy, where when the game was developed on the Wii U, Murphy was created for the gamepad controls. On it another player can help the others on screen by stunning enemies and moving platforms. However, when the game was ported to other consoles and PC, Murphy is now controlled by a single button. This totally loses the freedom of movement and fluency of using the stylus to move him, and often causes him not to go where you want him to.
Overall, I'll give Rayman Legends a 8/10. It's a great game that's fun to play, but it gets repetitive after a while where the amazing level design just isn't enough to occupy the basic game mechanics.
